Cleveland, Ohio –April 11, 2022– LEARNING BY DESIGN has published the annual Spring 2022 Education Facilities Design Awards Showcase.  The April 2022 edition features an assortment of exemplary PK-12 and post-secondary campus buildings. These recently activated projects include newly constructed entire schools and or renovated spaces that house early childhood, middle school, high school, specialized education, higher education college and university learning environments.

The University of Arkansas (UA) boasts multiple built mass timber projects with two others heading for groundbreaking this spring. In this important environmental and economic initiative for both the university and the state, the collaboration between the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design and UA Facilities Management is transforming the campus into a national “greenhouse” for mass timber design, construction, and project management.

New "Eagle Stadium at Rotary Field"

On February 15, 2022 , VLK Architects joined Pecos-Barstow-Toyah ISD (West Texas) to celebrate breaking ground on the construction of Eagle Stadium at Rotary Field. Eagle Stadium at Rotary Field will be the home to the Pecos High School Eagles and serve as a premier event stadium. Once complete, this stadium will be able to host football and soccer games, track and field events, band competitions, and more.

Student Co-Authorship of Learning Environments Creates Cultural Change

The project took place to shift educators’ thinking, model the way for students, and encourage adoption of learning environments to be the catalyst for change. To design their ideal learning environment, 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders took the planning seat, and the educators the project manager's seat. Once they dreamed up their spaces, they built the furniture they designed.

Trends at Cornell University, The University of Richmond, and Swarthmore College, and the importance of incorporating wellness design on campuses across the U.S. This select group of colleges and universities have begun implementing nature practices through various activities and in specific settings. Architecture and the interplay of interior and exterior space is an integral part of the effort to promote healthy campuses, improve student well-being and integrate natural experiences into their daily activities.

Pursuing Living Building Challenge Petal Certification

The new Davis Center at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, is leading campus-wide efforts to build an inclusive community on its grounds. Dedicated to advancing broad campus engagement with complex issues of identity, history, and cultures as they affect intellectual, creative and social live, the sustainable Center’s enhanced physical space and intellectual and social programming will serve students, faculty, staff, and the broader college community alike.

Lamar CISD Students Kick-Off 2022 at New Fletcher Morgan, Jr. Elementary School

(Rosenberg, Texas) – The first day of the new year brings the opening of Lamar Consolidated Independent School District’s Fletcher Morgan Jr., Elementary School. Completed in December 2021, 750 students in pre-K through fifth grade officially occupy the new school. Part of the 2017 Bond Election, Morgan Elementary School is the Lamar CISD’s 29th elementary school and VLK Architects’ fourth prototype facility with the district.
