(OVERLAND PARK, Kans., Aug. 5, 2026) – DLR Group has named David Reid principal and senior project designer for its K-12 Education studio. David is a nationally recognized architect, author, and educational design expert joins DLR Group to help shape the future of learning environments. In his role, Reid works directly with clients and design teams to translate a shared vision into meaningful learning environments that support student success and align design with academic objectives.
David advances the firm’s industry-leading approach to educational design by steering the integrated design process, contributing to research efforts, and amplifying the BOLD (Bridging Organization, Learning, and Design) team and its educational learning designers.

Reid brings more than four decades of experience to his clients and design teams, including over 20 years focused exclusively on shaping learning spaces. His design portfolio has touched every step of the educational journey from inspiring early learning environments to hyper-focused higher education facilities. Since earning his bachelor’s degree in architecture from Kansas State University, he has built a reputation within the industry for design leadership and having a deep understanding of how educational environments shape outcomes.
Reid is the first design professional in the United States to earn both the Accredited Learning Environment Planner (ALEP) and EDmarket Certified Learning Place Specialist (ECLPS) credentials. He has also co-authored and been featured in notable publications, including Unleashing Creative Genius: STEAM Studio’s Impact on Learning, Architectural Record, Learning by Design, EDmarket, and AIA, underscoring his design process in creating spaces that support purposeful learning.
Beyond his project work, Reid has promoted thought leadership across the education industry for more than a decade through workshops and speaking engagements.
Most recently, he was named a recipient of the 2026 ICON in Educational Design Award, an honor recognizing visionary leaders, change-makers, those who go beyond the norm, and whose work advances learning environments and student success.
